Joxemiel Barandiaran was born in Ataun in 1889 and died in Ataun in 1991. He carried out some very important research into the anthropology and ethnology and also the mythology of the Basque Country. He devoted many years to compiling old customs, beliefs, legends and stories that were on the point of being lost forever. The legends that we present here are known thanks to his work and they have converted Ataun into a town which is brimming with mythology. We propose that you follow an easy route around the town which is ideal for all the family. As we walk we will gradually discover all the treasures gathered by Joxemiel.
